DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES

Doctor of Philosophy in Communication and Media Studies is developed to provide graduates with in-depth knowledge and scholarly leadership qualities and the ability to communicate critically, objectively and creatively as required in academia, identify and solve problems, conduct cutting edge research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and ethics, while advancing lifelong learning. Graduates also should be able to demonstrate critical understanding in media and communications, recognize the social, legal and ethical issues facing the media and communications professions and to be able to show the linkage between professionalism and human values in the media field..

Doctor of Philosophy in Communication and Media Studies was introduced in 1999 with the objective to provide higher qualification and research skills among scholars. Being offered in full research mode, full-time and part-time students are required to complete the study within 2.5 years to seven (7) years.

Students need to attend two (2) Graduate Seminars by IPSis and a seminar of Entrepreneurial module (TIE2) by MASMED in order to meet the requirement of Defense of Research Proposal. A viva-voce session will be held upon the completion of PhD candidature with a thesis writing of about 80,000-100,000 words.

Entry Requirements

1. Master degree with minimum CGPA of 3.00 from UiTM or a university recognized by UiTM Senate.
2. Candidates without a prior degree in the related field* or relevant working experience** with minimum CGPA based on (a) must undergo and pass the prerequisite courses offered by the faculty before enrolling in the program.
